The Texas State men’s golf team traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana, to participate in the 40th annual Louisiana Classics held at the Oakbourne Country Club from March 10-11.
The Bobcats finished last out of 12 collegiate golf programs, shooting a combined +27. Texas State’s best round of the tournament wasn’t until the 18th hole when it started 1-over par.
“It was a very humbling experience for our guys this week,” Texas State head coach Shane Howell said. “We learned the hard way what we need to do in order to be successful in these types of tournaments.”
Junior Sakke Siltala led the Bobcats in his second consecutive tournament, shooting 4-under 212 and finishing tied for sixth place. This is Siltala’s fourth top-ten finish of the season, along with 13 rounds at or under par.
“It was another good week for Sakke as he continues to put himself in position to win golf tournaments,” Howell said. “A win is coming soon for him.”
Senior Jack Burke finished tied for 35th place, shooting 5-over 221(72-74-75), going even par through the first 18 holes.
Ranked eighth in the nation, LSU (-19) won the tournament, with Texas A&M (-17) and Louisiana (-7) finishing in second and third place, respectively.
The Bobcats next tournament is the All-American Intercollegiate, from March 17-18, in Humble, TX.
