The Student Government meeting was comprised of voting on the Cabinet Compensation Act, Campus Safety Review and reading the updated Student Government constitution.
The resolution “Cabinet Compensation Act” passed and allows cabinet members to be reimbursed for any responsibilities they are given outside of normal duties within their positions. Compensation may include parking passes, service hour signatures or $7.25 hourly pay.
“The Campus Safety Review Resolution” is in response to concerns of safety on campus due to the misreporting of the Clery Act and the discovery some emergency phones and cameras were not working properly. The legislation will require mandatory tests to check the functionality of the safety measures and place cameras in crime-concentrated areas.

In new business, the resolution to “Establish an Environmental Service Fee Committee University Policy and Procedure Statement” calls on university administration to establish a committee with student representation to review how the environmental service fee is being used.
An updated constitution was proposed to revise all elements of Student Government in accordance with recommendations from the Student Government task force. The new constitution will be voted on in Student Government’s next meeting Nov. 11.
San Marcos City Council Place 1 candidate Maxfield Baker attended the meeting as a guest speaker and said his motivation to run for City Council is to increase employment and advocate for affordable housing.
“Housing initiatives should focus on bringing affordability into the equation,” Baker said.
Vice President Tucker Thompson reported Student Government members filled 17 bags of trash this past weekend at their monthly river cleanup. He provided an update that an organization may be absorbing the responsibilities of the Free Menstrual Hygiene Program to maintain the initiative through future administrations.
Student Government meetings are open to the public and are held every Monday at 7 p.m. in the LBJ Teaching Theater. The meeting agenda and resolutions can be found on the Student Government website.
