The Texas State Women’s tennis team played its first home match Wednesday, Feb. 21, and fell short 0-4 against Eastern Michigan.
There was some rain area flooding the outdoor courts that forced the two teams to play inside on Texas State’s two indoor courts.
This loss drops the Bobcats to a 0-6 record and improves Eastern Michigan to a 6-3 record.
In the first match Ana Perez, junior, suffered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 loss to Ani Gogvadze.
After, Julia Navajo-Melendez, junior, grabbed the second loss of the day after points were scored in streaks. Navajo-Melendez was able to grab the first point of the first match but lost the set. Again in the third set, she was able to grab the first few points but loss the match in a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 score to Marie Mayerova.
Rishona Israel-Lewis, freshman, also fell in three sets. Israel-Lewis came back in the third set from a 5-2 deficit to end up within 1 point before losing with a score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 against Gugliana Ansaloni.
In the fourth match, Alex Jones, senior, dropped to a 6-4, 6-1 loss against Andrea Martinovska.
In the final match of the day, Joy Chia Ming Ming, junior, dropped after she held a 2-1 lead over Natalia Regalado.
The Bobcats head back on the road to face Rice University Feb. 23 and Sam Houston State Feb. 25.
