Construction of the Shared Use Parking Project, funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of San Marcos, is undergoing at Rio Vista Park causing changes to parking spaces.
The realignment of parking spots is due to ensure protection of an archaeological area located southeast of the parking lot as well as the Ranger Station along the San Marcos River from possible construction debris.
The removal of 12 spaces, used by the City of San Marcos Public Safety Department personnel, will accommodate city workers by placing seven destinated spaces adjacent from the lot for their usage.
Parking available for Rio Vista Park patrons includes 58 unrestrictive parking, four five-minute loading and unloading spaces, and 15 handicap-accessible spaces. Unrestrictive parking is also available along C.M. Allen Parkway.
The project is estimated to be completed around early summer 2020.
