The Texas State men’s basketball team lost their season opener 65-57 to the Air Force at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado Nov. 12.
With both teams participating in their first game The Bobcats are 0-1 for the season, while the Falcons started their season 1-0.
The first points of the season were granted to senior forward Immanuel King after knocking down a layup. From that, the Falcons went on a 9-0 run until sophomore guard Nijal Pearson hit a three-pointer from the right side.
The Bobcats found themselves ahead for the first and last time after a Pearson three-point play with 4:12 left in the half.
Before going into halftime, sophomore forward Nedeljko Prijovic scored the Bobcat’s final basket of the half while the Falcons went 12-2. Texas State went into the half down 33-24.
Senior guard Tyler Blount cut the lead by three with the first basket of the half. The Bobcats were still down 33-27.
Texas State shot the final nine points of the game, but still fell short 65-57 at the end.
Pearson led the team with 13 points and six rebounds. King scored nine with two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Marlin Davis, Pearson and sophomore forward Eric Terry finished with two assists each.
Freshman guard Reggie Miller, junior forward Alex Peacock, freshman guard Shelby Adams and Terry had one steal each for the night.
Overall, the Bobcats shot 70.6 percent from the free throw line and totaled 33 rebounds. The Air Force managed to shoot 77.8 percent from the free throw line with 30 rebounds. Texas State had four steals for the night, while the Falcons finished with 11.
The Bobcats will be back in action for their first home game of the season Nov. 15 against I-35 neighbor University of Texas-San Antonio at Strahan Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
