Student Government voted on the vice-president-to-be Sept. 10 during the second meeting of the year and the first since President Boreing announced her resignation Sept. 8.
Vice President Ruben Becerra Jr. ran the meeting, as Boreing did not attend. During his last address as vice president before swearing in as president, Becerra said he did not see or receive any donations from a liberal or conservative organization during his election campaign. He also said he was not invited to any liberal or conservative event pertaining to Student Government. Becerra also said the accusations of forcing students to vote for him unrealistic.
The Senate voted former director of government affairs Alison Castillo as Senate Pro-Tempore. Castillo won against her opponent, senator Keely Freund, by nine votes. This upcoming Friday, Castillo will become the new vice president as Becerra is sworn in as president.
All old business legislations were passed except the legislation to confirm the president’s nominee for Director of Government Affairs. The confirmation was removed because the position had already been filled.
New business included a resolution for Student Government senators to become deputized and a budget authorization act. The Senate will vote on both legislation at the next Student Government meeting.
Student Government meets in the LBJ Teaching Theater every Monday at 7 p.m.
