Texas State volleyball earned its second sweep of the weekend Oct. 17 as it defeated No. 15 University of Louisiana at Lafayette (25-15, 25-20, 26-24) to take the series 3-0.
The Bobcats are now on an eight-game win streak and have an 11-1 overall and 6-0 Sun Belt Conference record.
Texas State kept the momentum from its Oct. 16 wins, jumping to a four-point lead to dominate the Ragin’ Cajuns. Four kills apiece from redshirt sophomore outside hitter Lauren Teske and junior middle blocker Jillian Slaughter secured the first-set win 25-15.
The ‘Cats once again got off to an early lead in the second set, scoring five unanswered points before forcing a Louisiana timeout. The Cajuns were never able to tie the set despite a late effort and lost 25-20.
Louisiana put forth its biggest effort in the third set as both teams exchanged the lead six times. After the Cajuns secured a 23-20 advantage, the Bobcats took a timeout to regain confidence and then went on a 6-1 burst to scrape by the set and win 26-24.
Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott and junior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald matched a series-high 11 kills, with Fitzgerald also added a match-high three blocks.
The Bobcats pulled off a .301 match hitting percentage while holding the Ragin’ Cajuns to a .187 percentage. Texas State also dominated across the stat board, defeating Louisiana in kills (53-35), blocks (5-4), assists (52-35) and digs (63-56).
Next up, Texas State will take on Little Rock in a three-game series, starting at 11 a.m. on Oct. 23 at Strahan Arena.
