The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Dec. 31, a northern Hays County man in his 70s. There have been a total of 414 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 649 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 110 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 33,537, total active cases to 2,693 and recoveries to 30,430. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 2,875.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 872, 830 and 537 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 305,338. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,420 and total current hospitalizations is 15 after six people were hospitalized and seven people was discharged.
The county reports 13 unvaccinated people and two fully vaccinated persons are hospitalized. Nine unvaccinated and one fully vaccinated patient is in the ICU.
