The Texas State Bobcats traveled to Statesboro, GA. this weekend where they held of the Georgia Southern Eagles to a 2-1 series after winning their last game off of a run-rule in seven innings by a score of 14-4.
The Bobcats improve to an overall record of 23-13 and 9-6 in Sun Belt Conference (SBC) play. The eagles are now 20-16 and 8-7 in SBC play.
Texas State scored seven runs in the fourth, two of them were home runs by Felipe Rodriguez and Jaylen Hubbard. One run scored off a wild pitch and the last four runs came from RBI’s by Shuffield, Rodriguez, Hubbard and Skyler Valentine.
The Bobcats led 11-2 going into the fifth and were able to score one more in the top of the sixth from another RBI by Wuthrich. The Eagles hit a one-run homer to close the sixth inning leaving the score at 12-3.
The seventh and final inning saw the Bobcats put two more on the board with an RBI by Ryan Newman and one unearned run by Shuffield. Georgia Southern was able to score one more run off a homer to center field. The game was called at 14-4, run-rule.
On the mound for the Bobcats was senior pitcher Connor Reich, who went six total innings and struck out eight Eagle batters.
Texas State beat the Eagles on Saturday 8-2. Pitching for the Bobcats was right-handed pitcher Nicholas Fraze who went five innings and struck out five Eagle batters. Two Bobcats, Hollis and Wuthrich had home runs in the third inning.
Next up Texas State hosts Houston Baptist University at Bobcat Ballpark at 6 P.M. Tuesday, April 16.
