The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Jan. 5, a Buda man in his 80s. There have been a total of 417 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 183 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 100 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 35,442, total active cases to 4,254 and recoveries to 30,771. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 4,708.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 1,421, 1,292 and 898 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 310,602. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,430 and total current hospitalizations is 11 after two people were hospitalized and four were discharged.
The county reports six unvaccinated people and five fully vaccinated persons are hospitalized. Five unvaccinated and one fully vaccinated patients are in the ICU.
