Texas State soccer (3-8-1 overall, 3-4-0 Sun Belt) will close out the regular season at home Oct. 25 against the winless University of Louisiana-Monroe (0-7 overall, 0-6 Sun Belt).
Texas State currently ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference West Division and is tied with Appalachian State for sixth place overall. ULM is last in the West Division and last in the conference.
The teams last faced each other Oct. 2, ending with the Bobcats picking up the 2-1 win. In that game, senior forward Sydney Kammer and sophomore midfielder Bailey Peschel each scored a goal with Peschel scoring the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute.
The Bobcats have an impressive offense. In the Sun Belt, Texas State ranks sixth in goals (11 total, 0.92 per game) and third in shots per game (12.58).
Texas State has a three-way tie for leading goalscorer with sophomore forward/midfielder Kiara Gonzales, senior forward Sydney Kammer and freshman midfielder Emma Jones each scoring two goals. Gonzales and freshman forward Olivia Wright lead the team with two assists apiece.
Texas State is tied for eighth in the conference for goals allowed with 19.
The standout player for the maroon and gold has been freshman goalkeeper Beth Agee, who leads the nation in saves (61) and goalie minutes played (1139). She also ranks 15th in the nation in saves per game (5.08, second in Sun Belt) and 38th in save percentage (0.763, sixth in Sun Belt).
ULM ranks last in goals (2 total, 0.29 per game) and tenth in shots per game (8.00).
Freshman defender/midfielder Lena Goppel and junior forward Courtney Marten lead the Warhawks with one goal each. No players have recorded an assist for the Warhawks. ULM ranks tenth in goals allowed with 21.
Junior goalkeeper Hailey Hillock ranks sixth in the conference for the Warhawks with 32 saves.
Last time out for the Bobcats, the team completed a 2-1 comeback win Oct. 18 against the Little Rock Trojans. Senior forward Doro Greulich scored late in the first half to put Little Rock up 1-0 going into the break.
In the 75th minute, Wright made a spectacular individual play, dodging several defenders and firing off a cross-body shot into the right side of the net to even the game 1-1. With two minutes remaining in the match, senior midfielder/forward Mackenzie Smith was fouled in the box and scored the game-winning goal off the penalty.
Kick-off is at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
