The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Oct. 5, an Austin man in his 60s.
The county also reported 30 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 72 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 28,796, total active cases to 945 and recoveries to 27,478. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 1,648.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 223, 314 and 174 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 258,792. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,311 and total current hospitalizations is 38 after four people were hospitalized and five were discharged.
The county reports 31 unvaccinated people and seven fully vaccinated people are hospitalized. 26 unvaccinated patients and two fully vaccinated patients are in the ICU.
