The Texas State volleyball team swept Arkansas State 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-20) for the second time this season Nov. 3.
The Bobcats took a 25-13 victory in the first set. Arkansas State trailed 9-8 early on in the first set, but the Bobcats surprised the Red Wolves with a 13-2 run that guaranteed them the first set.
The second set was also in control by the Bobcats, but the Red Wolves didn’t let those points come easy. The Bobcats flew out to a 20-16 advantage and looked like they had the set sealed. However, the Red wolves fought back to tie the set up at 20-20 and later again at 24-24.
The Bobcats finished the set off with back-to-back kills from junior Amy Daigle and sophomore Megan Porter to go into intermission with a 2-0 advantage.
In the third set the Bobcats raced out to a 19-13 advantage after a spike from sophomore Amy Pflughaupt and finished the set and the game off with a 25-20 win.
Pflughaupt led the team with 13 digs and 11 kills, but Texas State head coach Karen Chisum said it was a team effort out there.
“This team isn’t just about Amy,” Chisum said. “It’s not just about Jaliyah, it’s not just about Madison or Megan. This is a complete team, and that’s what’s been fun about the success we’ve had so far, this season. Tonight, may have been one of the proudest moments I’ve had with this team.”
The Red Wolves had a 5-4 lead in blocks, but that was the only thing they led in. Texas State led the match in digs (62-44), assists (47-30), attack percentage (.293-.161), kills (49-33) and aces (2-0).
Texas State will play their third match in four days when they welcome Little Rock into Strahan Coliseum Nov. 5 at noon.
