The Texas State Bobcat’s picked up their 12th win of the season Thursday night against Sun Belt Conference Rivals ULM in an 86-52 beatdown.
The victory gives head coach Zenarae Antoine her 100th career win as the Bobcat’s head coach, making her the fourth coach in Texas State women’s basketball history to reach 100 career wins. She joins former coaches Suzanne Fox, Judy Rinker and Linda Sharp.
The Bobcats got out to an early 6-1 lead off a pair of threes from junior sharpshooter Toshua Leavitt. Leavitt’s first triple was the 197th of her career, moving her ahead of Sarah Wagner as Texas State’s all-time leader in threes.
Answering back, ULM took a 7-6 lead, the Warhawk’s only lead of the evening. The game remained close as ULM got within four points several times before Texas State took command and ended the half up 12 points.
The second half was a far less competitive affair. After allowing 32 points in the first half, the Bobcats tightened their defense, holding the Warhawks to 20 points in the second half.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was senior guard, Tayler Deer. Deer was 13-20 from the floor, leading the team with 36 points, the senior rounded her game out with seven assists and three steals.
Continuing to further cement her legacy at as a Bobcat, Leavitt totaled 19 points on the evening. The Junior was 5-10 from behind the three-point line, giving her a season total 84 triples, the most all-time for a women’s basketball player at Texas State.
Scoring eight points for the Bobcats, sophomore guard Brooke Holle returned to the lineup after a short time away. The returning sophomore also added a game high seven rebounds.
With just one day to prepare the Bobcats are set to face off against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Strahan Coliseum Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.
