Texas State women’s basketball (1-2) will travel to face the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders (2-5) on Dec. 16.
The last time the two teams played each other was on Nov. 30, 2019. Texas State led in every quarter and went on to win the match 57-48.
This season the Bobcats are averaging 59.3 points (33.7%, 20.7% three-pointers), 40 rebounds and ten assists per game. On defense, Texas State averages nine steals and 1.3 blocks.
Leading Texas State in scoring is junior forward Da’Nasia Hood with 19.7 points a game (35.7%, 20.8% three-pointers), followed by senior guard Avionne Alexander with 11.3 (57.7%, 80% free throws) and junior guard Kennedy Taylor with 11 (32.4%, 33.3% three-pointers).
Hood also leads the team in rebounding with nine a game, Alexander is second with 5.3 and sophomore forward Lauryn Thompson is third at 4.7.
Five Bobcats average a steal or more per game, led by Taylor with 2.7 and Alexander with 2.3. Thompson is the leading shot blocker for Texas State at 0.7 a game.
In its last game, Texas State lost to the University of Oklahoma Sooners 52-40 on Dec. 13. For the game, Hood led the Bobcats with 18 points (7-22, 3-6 free throws) and pulled in six rebounds. Alexander scored a total of 11 points (5-11) and pulled in six rebounds.
So far this season, the Islanders are averaging 65.4 points a game, 37.4 rebounds and 13.6 assists a game.
Sophomore forward Alecia Westbrook leads TAMU-CC in points per game (14.9, 60.3%), rebounds (8.7) and blocks (1.2). Freshman guard Paige Allen is second in scoring averaging 10.7 points (41.9%) and sophomore guard Hayle Campbell is third with 7.1 (40%).
The Islanders are coming off of an 84-38 blow out win against the Concordia University Tornadoes. In that game, Allen led all scorers with 21 (9-12, 1-2 three-pointers) to go along with five steals and two assists. Westbrook finished with 10 points (4-5), five rebounds and two steals.
Tip-off is at 7 p.m. and the game can be streamed on the Islanders Digital Network.
