Texas State volleyball sweeps Little Rock in first match of three-game series

Texas State volleyball opened up its three-game series against the Little Rock Trojans with a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-14) win Oct. 23 at Strahan Arena.
The Bobcats extended their winning streak to nine games and conference record to 7-0.
The first set was a close battle between Little Rock and Texas State in the early goings of the set that saw the two teams tied at 7-7. An 8-0 run by Texas State turned the tide to the Bobcats’ favor, who then led 15-7 and carried the momentum to a first set win at 25-19.
The second set was the closest of the match. Little Rock jumped out in front of Texas State early in the second set, going on a dominating 7-1 run to take a 10-5 lead over the Bobcats. Texas State stormed back going on a 12-2 run to retake the lead at 17-12, forcing a Little Rock timeout. The run was spurred by senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott, who scored eight kills during the time span.
Little Rock managed a slight comeback, and following an even back-and-forth between the teams, the game was all tied up at 23-23 going into a Texas State timeout.
In the end, Texas State ended the set with a 3-1 run to win the second set 26-24 and secure a 2-0 lead.
Little Rock kept the final set relatively close to start, only down 10-8. The Bobcats quickly overwhelmed the Trojans, running away with the third and final set 25-14 to conclude the 3-0 victory sweep.
Three Texas State players reached double digits in kills with junior outside hitter Kenedi Rutherford leading the team with a career-high 15, followed by Scott who finished the game with 12 and junior middle blocker Jillian Slaughter with 10. Junior setter Emily DeWalt led the Bobcats in assists with 45.
Texas State will play Little Rock once again at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 and conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Oct. 24.
