A collision on Interstate 35 killed one San Marcos High School student and injured two others on Sunday. All southbound lanes of I-35 were closed for four hours while the San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team examined the crash scene.
The driver of the vehicle lost control and rolled several times after striking the center barrier near the 206 southbound mile marker at 3:43 p.m. The backseat passenger, a 15-year-old girl and student at SMHS, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at 4:45 p.m.
The driver, a 16-year-old boy, and front seat passenger, a 15-year-old girl, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to St David’s South Austin Hospital.
This is the seventh collision the team has investigated this year and the fifth highway fatality in San Marcos this year.
