The Texas State men’s basketball team rolled past the Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Islanders 66-53 at Strahan Coliseum Nov. 29.
The Bobcats are now on a two-game win streak after beating Pacific on the road Nov. 25. For the season, the Bobcats now hold a record of 4-3.
The Islanders took a 4-0 lead early in the game. The Bobcats battled back and tie the game at 9-9 with 15:42 on the clock.
Texas State pulled away from the Islanders with a seven-point lead with 6:55 in the game.
Before going into the locker room for halftime, the Bobcats extended their lead to 17 points after a free-throw from sophomore guard Marlin Davis. The score at halftime was 33-16.
The Bobcats were the first on the board in the second half. The Bobcats reached their biggest lead of the night with 20 points and 18:18 on the clock. The score was 38-18.
TAMUCC closed in on the Bobcats 54-46 with 6:52 on the clock.
The final point of the game was scored by the Islanders leaving the final score 66-53.
Junior forward Alex Peacock led the Bobcats with 21 points, nine assists and nine rebounds. Peacock went 7-8 from field goal range and 5-7 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore guard Nijal Pearson finished with eight points and sophomore forward Eric Terry had nine. Senior forward Immanuel King and Pearson had eight rebounds each for the night.
Overall, Texas State shot 62.5 percent from the free-throw line and 50.0 percent from the field-goal. The Bobcats totaled 40 rebounds and 15 assists.
The Islanders shot 61.5 percent from the free-throw line and 37.0 from the field goal. TAMUCC finished with 25 rebounds for the night and eight assists.
Next for the Bobcats is a road trip to Houston, Texas for a game against Houston Baptist University Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. Texas State will be back at Strahan on Dec 6 against McMurry at 7 p.m.
