The Texas State football team came up short 30-12 to the Arkansas State Red Wolves Nov. 18 at the Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Bobcats fell to 2-9 on the season and 1-6 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Texas State reached the scoreboard first with a five-yard run touchdown by sophomore running-back Anthony D. Taylor. Freshman kicker Foster Hilborn’s extra point attempt against 24-mph wind was no good, giving the Bobcats a 6-0 early lead over the Red Wolves.
The Bobcat defense held Arkansas State to only a field goal on their drive cutting the lead to 6-3.
On kickoff, freshman wide-receiver Jeremiah Haydel fumbled the ball at Texas State’s 24-yard line, which setup Arkansas State’s first touchdown. A one-yard touchdown and a field goal gave the Red Wolves their first lead of the day, 10-6.
The Red Wolves scored again due to a turnover on fourth and two by the Bobcats. The Arkansas State quarterback kept the ball for one-yard extending the lead 16-6 going into halftime.
The Bobcat defense could not hold Arkansas State on a fourth and four early in the second half. From there, freshman running-back Robert Brown Jr. rushed for 71-yards to Arkansas State’s 12.
The career-long run set up a touchdown pass from graduate quarterback Damian Williams to Taylor. Although the extra point was blocked, the Bobcats had closed in on the Red Wolves 16-12.
Arkansas State answered back after gaining possession from a failed fourth and five play. A one-yard touchdown and an extra point extended the lead 23-12.
A 12-yard touchdown pass by the Red Wolves gave them their final touchdown of the day and a 30-12 lead over the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will close out their 2017 season Nov. 24 in Troy, Alabama against the Troy Trojans. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
