Ruben Becerra Jr. and Alison Castillo held their first Student Government meeting Sept. 17 as president and vice president.
Hours before the meeting, both Becerra and Castillo were sworn in as president and vice president at University President Denise Trauth’s house in a small meeting.
At the Student Government meeting, Keely Freund was voted as the new Senate Pro-Tempore in a unanimous vote by the Senate.
Cabinet member applications have been extended and will close Sept. 19 at 11:59 p.m. Chief of Staff Matthew Gonzales encouraged senators to apply before the deadline.
During the meeting, the Senate passed legislation for senators to become deputized to register students to vote.
The Senate also passed the Budget Authorization Act of 2018 and an amendment to the legislation to cut $2,085 from the House and Discretionary portions of the budget.
Student Government meetings are held Mondays at 7 p.m. in the LBJ Teaching Theatre.
