Hays County Grand Jury issued an indictment towards Stewart Thomas Mettz, 58, of San Marcos for the shooting death of a San Marcos Police Officer, Kenneth Copeland, 58.
Mettz was indicted on capital murder, punishable by death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The indictment has been delivered to the Hays County District Clerks Office, a press release stated.
According to the indictment, Mettz is accused of “intentionally or knowingly” causing the death of Officer Copeland.
The indictment does not find Mettz guilty. It is a formal accusation suggesting enough evidence exists for a trial to occur. Mettz was originally booked into the Hays County Jail Dec. 6, 2017 and is being held on a $1 million bond.
