The Texas State men’s basketball team fell to the University of Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns 80-54 in the Sun Belt Conference Quarterfinals at Lake Front Arena Friday, March 9.
With the loss, the Bobcats end their season with an overall record of 15-18 and a conference record of 7-11.
Texas State’s Alex Peacock, junior forward, scored the first basket of the game. The game remained close in the first five minutes, until Louisiana had a 14-point lead with nine minutes left untill halftime. The score was 21-7.
The Ragin Cajuns continued to roll past the Bobcat defense, scoring 16 more points to end the half. The Bobcats scored a total of 15 points.
Nijal Pearson, sophomore guard, only had six points, the most for the Bobcats during the first period. Peacock followed with five points.
The Bobcats continued to fight through the second period, yet the Ragin Cajuns continued to pull further away. The score was 50-26 at the 16:15 mark.
Texas State was down 29 points with 11:43 minutes left in regulation. The Bobcats were unable to come back and ultimately fell to a score of 80-54.
Top scorer and rebounder Pearson, had 14 points and five rebounds. Eric Terry, redshirt sophomore forward, and Isaiah Gurley, junior guard, both finished with six points.
