The Hays County Local Health Department reports two new COVID-19-related fatalities Dec. 23-28, a Buda man in his 70s and a Dripping Springs man in his 70s. There have been a total of 124 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 437 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 310 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 10,074, total active cases to 1,553 and recoveries to 8,397. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 2,048. Data now includes 476 positive cases from November and December that were not reported to the HCLHD in a timely manner. These cases are not active.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 468, 521 and 312 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 71,585. The total number of hospitalizations is 527 and total current hospitalizations is 32 after 28 people were hospitalized and 23 were discharged.
