The Hays County Local Health Department reports three new COVID-19-related fatalities Jan. 5; a Kyle man in his 70s, a Kyle man in his 60s and a Wimberley female in her 70s. There have been a total of 136 fatalities in the county.

The county also reported 204 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 248 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 11,169, total active cases to 1,690 and recoveries to 9,336. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 2,419.

San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 543, 493 and 365 active cases, respectively.

According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 78,451. The total number of hospitalizations is 575 and total current hospitalizations is 39 after 10 people were hospitalized and seven were discharged.
