The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Jan. 8, a Kyle man in his 90s. There have been a total of 138 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 257 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 146 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 11,545, total active cases to 1,808 and recoveries to 9,599. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 2,442.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 594, 515 and 386 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 81,289. The total number of hospitalizations is 591 and total current hospitalizations is 36 after six people were hospitalized and nine were discharged.
