San Marcos CISD District 1 Board of Trustees Juan Miguel Arredondo voluntarily stepped down from the San Marcos CISD subcommittee after his arrest in mid-February.
Arredondo attended the school district’s board meeting on March 8 after he was arrested for a DWI by the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) on Feb. 18.
According to an SMPD incident report, officers found Arredondo’s red Ford mustang stopped at the intersection of E Access Road and HWY 123 and was asleep in the driver’s seat. After officers were able to get Arredondo to exit the vehicle, he showed several signs of intoxication. 
Following consideration in an executive meeting, the board explains Arredondo was resigning from his position in the subcommittee due to his violation of board operating procedures.
Arredondo has served as a San Marcos CISD trustee since May 2015 and is now in his third elective term. He was a mayoral candidate in 2020 before losing to incumbent Jane Hughson.
Two days after the arrest, Arredondo, who says he suffers from addiction, posted an apology to his “family, friends, constituents, and colleagues” on his Facebook page stating he will work hard to restore his image.
“I understand my actions affect my community and that my conduct carries with it a lot of consequences, both legal and professional,” Arredondo says in the post. “I’m willing to accept whatever those consequences are. I cannot overstate my gratitude for the public’s understanding, support and thoughts during this time. I intend to work doubly hard to continue to deserve that support and to restore the public’s confidence in me.”
