San Marcos police are investigating a homicide reported early Tuesday at Park North Condos.
The victim, Matthew Jacob Rodriguez, Jr. 27, of San Marcos, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno. Following, Rodriguez was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The initial call to police reported someone was lying unresponsive in a parking lot. First responders were called to the parking lot of Park North Condos at 1624 Aquarena Springs Drive at 2:24 a.m. where they found Rodriguez deceased on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
This is the first reported homicide in San Marcos of the year. In 2017, there were five.
