Commencement ceremonies delayed due to rain forecast

A Dec. 2019 commencement ceremony for the McCoy College of Business.

Texas State delayed in-person commencement ceremonies scheduled for Dec. 11 to Dec. 12 due to forecasted inclement weather.
The 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies Friday, Dec. 11 will now take place 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12. The 7 p.m. commencement ceremony Dec. 11 will continue as planned.
According to an announcement email from Provost Gene Bourgeois, graduates do not need to take any additional action to attend the rescheduled ceremonies, and existing reservations for graduates and their guests will carry over to Dec. 12.
Bourgeois says the weather is not conducive for outdoor celebrations the morning and afternoon of Dec. 11.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, but it was an alternative to canceling the ceremonies. Throughout the planning process, we knew weather could be a factor in holding outdoor ceremonies. Our goal has always been to provide you with the safe graduation experience you want and deserve,” Bourgeois stated in an email.
Bourgeois encourages anyone not able to attend the rescheduled ceremony to participate in the virtual ceremony taking place 10 a.m. on Dec. 12.
“Although I know it is not what you had planned, it will be a special event to commemorate your life changing achievement,” Bourgeois said.
