Hays County reports 2 new COVID-19 fatalities, 259 cases

The Hays County Local Health Department reports two new COVID-19-related fatalities Aug. 31, an Austin man in his 60s and a Kyle man in his 40s. There have been a total of 320 fatalities in the county.

The county also reported 259 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 162 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 25,401, total active cases to 2,119 and recoveries to 22,962. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 3,315.

San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 730, 658 and 371 active cases, respectively.

According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 223,896. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,186 and total current hospitalizations is 55 after three people were hospitalized and eight were discharged.

The county reports 47 unvaccinated people and eight fully vaccinated people are hospitalized. 36 unvaccinated patients and two fully vaccinated patients are in the ICU.
