UPDATE: Hays County reports 217 new COVID-19 cases

Note: The Hays County Local Health Department issued an update on Feb. 9 stating 77 recoveries were reported on Feb. 8, not 215. The brief has since been updated. 

The Hays County Local Health Department reports 217 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 77 recoveries Feb. 6-8, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 15,595, total active cases to 2,085 and recoveries to 13,312. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 3,122. 

San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 551, 778 and 354 active cases, respectively.

According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 112,926. The total number of hospitalizations is 694 and total current hospitalizations is 33 after three people were hospitalized and five were discharged. The total number of fatalities in the county is 198.
