Hays County reports 1 new COVID-19 fatality, 1,640 new COVID-19 cases

The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Jan. 7, a San Marcos woman in her 70s. There have been a total of 418 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 1,640 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and zero recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 37,082, total active cases to 5,893 and recoveries to 30,771. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 6,238.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 2,108, 1,738 and 1,187 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 313,908. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,439 and total current hospitalizations is 18 after nine people were hospitalized and three were discharged.
The county reports 11 unvaccinated people and seven fully vaccinated persons are hospitalized. Seven unvaccinated and one fully vaccinated patients are in the ICU.
