The Texas State Bobcats (4-2) won their fourth straight match of the spring season, with a win against intrastate rivals Sam Houston (0-7). Texas State have rebounded in a big way since their losses to Oklahoma and Whicita State and are starting to build some rhythm.
“We’re building momentum, finding our lineup and improving each week,” Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks said. “I’m really happy with where we are.”
Doubles
For the fourth consecutive match, the Bobcats won the doubles point. Freshman Olivia Collins and senior Ireland Simme won on court one by a final score of 6-2 over Aaliyah Hohmann and Anam Kurtsikashvili.
Sophomore Tadiwa Mauchi, who clinched Texas State’s victory over New Mexico State earlier in the week, and sophomore Chantajah Mills clinched the doubles point for Texas State after winning their game by a score of 6-3, which also meant that senior Emily Niers’ and freshman Stoney Cooks’ doubles game, which was tied 4-4 in the first set, was left unfinished as play was halted.
Singles
Texas State had no issue taking care of the Bearkats in the singles portion of the day.
Collins won both of her sets by a score of 6-1 each, a feat that Niers also replicated. Simme had a slightly tougher time, but she still won her first set with a 6-3 scoreline and the second set with a line of 6-4.
As a result, Cooks, Mauchi, and sophomore Charlotte Roesch’s games were halted, as there was no reason to continue.
The Bobcats will try to keep the good times rolling against another local rival in Tarleton State. They’ll face off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility in Stephenville, Texas.
