Sophomore shortstop Dawson Park is officially no longer with the Texas State baseball program, as confirmed by D1baseball co-owner Kendall Rogers.
Park is not listed on the official Texas State roster online, adding additional confirmation to his departure from the program.
The shortstop had been among one of the Bobcats bright spots, taking a considerable offensive leap from his freshman season, slashing a .301 BA/.387 OBP/.575 SLG and spotting a .962 OPS, 13 home runs and led the team in RBI with 52.
While the exact reasons for his departure are unknown, the absence is especially notable after an argument broke out between Bobcat baseball players was seen following a loss to South Alabama that completed their weekend sweep against Texas State on Sunday, May 3, per San Marcos Daily Record Sports Editor Colton McWilliams.
Since then, Park had not been in the lineup on May 5 against Baylor and more recently yesterday evening’s game against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
With the Bobcats fighting for their postseason lives, the short term solution will presumably be a mixed array of players starting at shortstop for the foreseeable future.
Texas State is set to continue their weekend series against the Red Wolves at 6 p.m. later tonight, May 9, at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field in Jonesboro, Ark. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
