After losing their first two matches of the season against Wichita State and ranked Oklahoma, Texas State (1-2) got their first win of the calendar year with a 6-1 rout of St. Mary’s on Friday at the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex in San Antonio, Texas
The Bobcats went 5-1 in singles, after dominating the doubles section of the day to earn the win.
Singles
Sophomore Charlotte Roesch lost the first match against Alessia Terlizzi, giving St. Mary’s their only point. Senior Emily Niers, sophomore Tadiwa Mauchi, senior Ireland Simme, freshman Stoney Cooks, and freshman Olivia Collins won five straight matches for Texas State to secure a positive result.
Niers had the longest match of the day, having to win on three sets rather than two after dropping the second set. Collins was able to win in two sets, but she had to win her first singles set through a tiebreak.
Doubles
Collins and Simme won the first double set of the afternoon by a score of 6-3. Tadiwa Mauchi and Charlotte Roesch won by the same scoreline. The last set, played by freshman Du Pasquier Jensen and junior Julia Richardet, was a bit more nervy, but they were able to pull out a 7-5 win.
Texas State will cap off the week at home, facing off against New Mexico State and Sam Houston after they face UTRGV on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Edinburg, Texas. Fans can watch the home matches by attending them in person at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
