Texas State (10-6) was able to clinch a vital away win against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (11-4) Sunday afternoon in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Bobcats secured the doubles point early and went 3-2 in singles to reach four points on the day, securing the victory.
Doubles
Senior Emily Niers and freshman Anastasia Radovanovic won the first doubles match of the day with a comfortable 6-1 win. Freshman Olivia Collins and senior Ireland Simme struggled, losing their doubles game by a score of 4-6.
Fortunately for the Bobcats, freshman Stoney Cooks and sophomore Charlotte Roesch won the final doubles game 6-4 to give Texas State the all-important doubles point.
Singles
The singles matches were tight, with Texas State barely edging out the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Stoney Cooks lost both of her sets by scores of 3-6 and 1-6, while Radovanovic won her two sets by the exact same scores. Sophomore Tadiwa Mauchi got swept in her own sets, but Roesch came back from behind to win her matchup in three sets.
Simme, despite losing her first set, also came back to win the third and final set 6-3, officially clinching the win for Texas State. Niers’ game was left unresolved as a result.
The Bobcats now return home from their road trip to face off against UTSA, who come into this matchup with an 8-9 record. The matchup is set to start at 1 p.m. on April 3 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex, and fans will be able to attend and watch in person.
