The City of San Marcos Traffic Control Box Art program is inviting artists to propose and paint murals around the city for a $300 commission.
According to the communications office for the city, “The Traffic Control Box Art program is designed to beautify the city by adding works of art to the streetscape on surfaces that are often targeted by graffiti vandals. Winning designs will be digitized and printed on vinyl wraps to be placed on traffic control boxes at various locations throughout the city.”
Submissions should be emailed to Recreation Manager Lisa Morris, [email protected], or mailed to 401 E. Hopkins, San Marcos TX 78666. Submissions must be postmarked no later than Feb. 28.
City staff is asking that proposed art projects include all visible sides of the traffic signal box and cautions against having large areas which may give vandals space to deface the work.
Applicants are asked to submit the following:
- Current resume
- Typed statement briefly explaining the proposed design (one page maximum)
- Projects can be new or existing artwork
- Digital submissions only—artwork can be submitted via CD or flash drive if the file size is to large to send via email.
Artists may submit more than one design proposal with statements for each.
