Auto-pedestrian accident leads to 16th traffic fatality in 2020

A 19-year-old man from Driftwood was killed Dec. 31 after being struck by an 18-wheeler on I-35 in San Marcos. 
The accident was identified as the 16th traffic fatality for San Marcos in 2020. San Marcos Police, San Marcos Fire and Hays County EMS responded to the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m. The pedestrian was identified as Cael Ryan Uzuanis.
According to authorities on the scene, Uzuanis was struck by an 18-wheeler after running onto the interstate. The driver of the 18-wheeler, authorities say, attempted to avoid hitting Uzuanis but was unsuccessful. 
Uzuanis was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno at 12:32 a.m. Jan. 1.
