A Wimberley resident remains in Pearsal after being detained by immigration officials. This is the second local instance of its kind in 2018.
Maria Maribel Garcia, a resident of Texas for over a decade is in South Texas Detention Center according to activist organization, Mano Amiga.
Before being detained by ICE, Garcia, mother of two, served as secretary of her prayer group with St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The church is hosting a candlelit vigil 6:30 p.m. March 3 in Wimberley on the Town Square with a petition for her release.
According to a statement from Mano Amiga, Garcia turned herself into police after an altercation with her sister. The altercation was because of an alleged affair between Garcia’s husband and her sister. Garcia was released from Hays County Jail on a personal recognizance bond. According to Mano Amiga, Garcia should be waiting at home, on her court date, but she is in a detention center instead.
