Capping off their time in the Sun Belt Conference, Texas State women’s golf finished runner-up at the Sun Belt Conference Championship that took place April 20-23 in Point Clear, Ala.
Over the first three days of the tournament, the Bobcats posted a strong showing in the stroke play portion of the event, carding 17-over 881 (297-290-294).
Freshman Grace Quintanilla finished the highest among the Bobcats at tied for fifth, earning all-tournament team honors as she carded all three of her rounds under par or better, shooting two-under 214 (72-70-72).
Both sophomore Fia Lindblom and senior Briana LeMaire placed in the top 25 out of 69 competitors. Lindblom fired 5-over 221 (74-73-74) to place tied for 14. LeMaire finished tied for 25, shooting 7-over 223 (76-73-74).
Rounding out Bobcat scoring, Yvonne Chamnes placed tied for 2,8 firing 8-over 224 (75-74-75). Mana Hersperger tied for 4,2 shooting 13-over 229 (77-78-74).
With a third place team finish in the stroke play portion behind South Alabama, the Bobcats advanced to the match play semifinals.
In the first round of match play, the Bobcats faced the Jaguars, defeating them 4.5-0.5 with wins from LeMaire, Quintanilla, Lindblom, and Hersperger.
After defeating Old Dominion in the semifinals, Louisiana-Monroe was set to face the Bobcats in the final matchup to determine the conference champion.
Despite having tight matchups throughout the round, the Bobcats fell 4-1 to ULM, finishing runner-up in the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The Bobcats now wait for the NCAA Regionals selection for possible team or individual selections. The selection show can be watched on April 29 on the Golf Channel.
