In Texas State’s final Sun Belt Conference Championship appearance, senior Sakke Siltala led the Bobcats for one last time to a seventh-place finish, matching his best finish and placement at the event over his last four years as a Bobcat.
Siltala (69-73-70–212) signed for two rounds under par, including a tournament-opening 69, to close the event at 4-under and tied for seventh. His 16 birdies tied for the most in the field, eight of which came on the first 18, and his 8-under on par 4s also led all golfers in making it a tournament to remember.
The Bobcats tied for 12th at the weather-plagued event that saw Wednesday’s final round stretch into Thursday after multiple delays. Coastal Carolina finished at (-14); No. 45 Arkansas State (-11); Southern Miss (-8); and South Alabama (-1) advanced to Semifinal Match Play as the top four teams after 54 holes.
Bryce Womack, finishing tied 58th (74-77-78–229), Jose Manuel Berenguel Casas finishing at 61st in the tournament with a score of (80-75-76–231), and Harrison Jaeger finishing 65th after a score of (79-82-78–239). The three all made their first SBC Tournament appearance as part of the Bobcat lineup. Fellow senior Ben Loveard (75-76-75–226) tied for 47th, going 10-over for the event.
With four seniors on the roster graduating, including Brannan Cox, Harrison Jaeger, Enzo Dakiche, and Siltala, the Bobcats’ roster is gonna look very different going into next season; however, with the Bobcats moving into the Pac-12, the future is bright in San Marcos.
