The Texas State Women’s basketball team picked up its 14th victory of the season in a 20-point 83-63 rout of the Georgia State Panthers.
The blowout marks the seventh time the Bobcats have won by 20 or more points and the 13th time they have won by double digits this season.
Texas State is 7-3 in the Sun Belt Conference, placing them third in the standings behind 9-0 Little Rock and 8-1 South Alabama.
This is the first time since 2015 that the Bobcats have had a weekend sweep of conference opponents
Junior guard Toshua Leavitt turned out the performance of the night, going 12-19 in field goals and knocking down 10-16 triples for 34 points, tying her career high. Leavitt’s 10 threes extend her single season record to 100. The junior also had one block and three steals in 40 minutes.
The first half was a back and forth affair that saw both teams trade leads, never able to break away from one another.
Despite being down 36-35 at the half Texas State retook the lead early in the third. After trading the lead a few more times, the Bobcats, powered by Leavitt’s nine points in the third quarter, entered the fourth with a seven-point lead.
Seven points from senior guard Taeler Deer and six points from sophomore guard Brooke Holle along with timely defensive plays helped the Bobcats finally pull away, ending the night up by 20.
Scoring her second consecutive double-double, totaling 19 points and 14 assists with five steals, Deer’s assists topped the previous school record of 13 in one game, a record that stood for 30 years.
Senior forward Ti’Aira Pitts contributed 13-points, an assist and two blocks in the blowout victory.
The Bobcats return home for a matchup against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Feb. 1, at 5:30 p.m.
