UPDATE: San Marcos to hold mayor and city council runoff races

All Hays County polling locations have reported complete but unofficial results as of 10:03 p.m. Here are the updated numbers from San Marcos and Hays County races with 109,386 ballots cast:

 

Hays County unofficial results for Presidential Election

U.S. President / Vice President:

Joe Biden unofficially won the presidential race in Hays County with 54.28% of the votes.

 

Donald J. Trump/Michael R. Pence, Republican: 43.47% (47,427)

Joseph R. Biden/Kamala D. Harris, Democrat: 54.28% (59,213)

Jo Jorgensen/Jeremy “Spike” Cohen, Libertarian: 1.58% (1,729)

Howie Hawkins/Angela Walker, Green: 0.38% (415)

 

City of San Marcos General Election unofficial results

Incumbents are italicized.

 

City of San Marcos, Mayor: 

Incumbent Jane Hughson gained 44.75% of the vote in the mayoral race, followed by Juan Miguel Arredondo at 32.69%. A runoff election will be called as no candidate gained more than 50% of the vote. Hughson and Arredondo will remain on the ballot for the Dec. 1 runoff for mayor.

Randy Dethrow: 4.25% (845)

J.M. Harris: 8.82% (1,755)

Jane Garnette Hughson: 44.75% (8,902)

City of San Marcos, City Council, Place 3:

Alyssa C. Garza unofficially won the San Marcos City Council Place 3 race with 71.43% over incumbent Ed Mihalkanin with 28.57%. Nov. 3 election results will be canvassed, and Garza will be sworn in to the San Marcos City Council Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

City of San Marcos, City Council, Place 4:

Shane Scott unofficially won the San Marcos City Council Place 4 race with 55.11% over incumbent Mark Rockeymoore with 44.89%. Nov. 3 election results will be canvassed, and Scott will be sworn in to the San Marcos City Council Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

City of San Marcos, City Council, Place 5, Unexpired Term:

NOTE: This is a special election to fill a vacancy in City Council Place 5.

Mark Gleason unofficially gained the most votes for the vacant City Council Place 5 seat, with 35.36% over Omar Baca and Zach Sambrano with 32.59% and 32.05%, respectively. A runoff election will be called as no candidate gained more than 50% of the vote. Gleason and Baca will continue to vie for the City Council Place 5 seat in a Dec. 1 runoff.

Incumbent Juan Miguel Arredondo unofficially won the SMCISD District 1 race with 59.79% over James Bryant, Jr with 40.21%.

Hays County released its fourth polling location update at 9:22 p.m. Here’s what key races in San Marcos and Hays County look like now with 106,341 ballots cast and 43 of 48 polling locations reported.

In Hays County, Joe Biden maintains a lead of 54.46%, with President Donald Trump following at 43.35%. This is a federal race.

Incumbent Jane Hughson continues to lead the mayoral race, now with 45.12%, over Juan Miguel Arredondo with 32.65%.

Alyssa C. Garza continues to lead the City Council Place 3 race, now with 71.19%, over incumbent Ed Mihalkanin with 28.81%.

Shane Scott continues to lead the City Council Place 4 race, now with 54.86%, over incumbent Mark Rockeymoore with 45.14%.

Mark Gleason continues to lead the race for the vacant City Council Place 5, now with 35.47% over Omar Baca and Zach Sambrano with 32.73% and 31.80%, respectively. 

In the Hays County races, incumbent Gary Cutler continues to lead the sheriff race at 50.89%, with Alex Villalobos trailing closely at 49.11%. Incumbent Lon A. Shell continues to lead the commissioner precinct 3 race at 52.12%, with Lisa Prewitt trailing at 47.88%. 

Incumbent Erin Zweiner continues to lead the District 45 State Representative race in Hays County, now with 52.51%, following Carrie Isaac at 47.49%.

In Hays County, Mary “MJ” Hegar maintains a lead in the U.S. Senator race of 51.42% over Sen. John Cornyn’s 45.49%. In the U.S. Representative race, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett continues to lead, now with 62.28%, followed by Jenny Garcia Sharon at 32.71%.

 

8:43 p.m. update:

Hays County released its third polling location update at 8:43 p.m. Here’s what key races in San Marcos and Hays County look like now with 101,407 ballots cast and 27 of 48 polling locations reported.

In Hays County, Joe Biden maintains a lead of 54.84%, with President Donald Trump following at 43.07%. This is a federal race.

Incumbent Jane Hughson continues to lead the mayoral race, now with 45.94%, over Juan Miguel Arredondo with 31.84%.

Alyssa C. Garza continues to lead the City Council Place 3 race, now with 70.78%, over incumbent Ed Mihalkanin with 29.22%.

Shane Scott continues to lead the City Council Place 4 race, now with 54.98%, over incumbent Mark Rockeymoore with 45.02%.

Mark Gleason continues to lead the race for the vacant City Council Place 5, now with 35.75% over Omar Baca and Zach Sambrano with 32.87% and 31.39%, respectively. 

Incumbent Juan Miguel Arredondo continues to lead the SMCISD District 1 race, now with 59.78%, over James Bryant, Jr with 40.22%. Additionally, Mayra Mejia continues to lead the SMCISD District 3 race, now with 60.39%, over Nicholas Costilla with 39.61%.

In the Hays County races, incumbent Gary Cutler continues to lead the sheriff race at 50.65%, with Alex Villalobos trailing closely at 49.35%. 

Incumbent Lon A. Shell continues to lead the commissioner precinct 3 race at 52.20%, with Lisa Prewitt trailing at 47.80%. 

Incumbent Erin Zweiner continues to lead the District 45 State Representative race in Hays County, now with 52.89%, following Carrie Isaac at 47.11%.

In Hays County, Mary “MJ” Hegar maintains a lead in the U.S. Senator race of 51.82% over Sen. John Cornyn’s 45.24%. In the U.S. Representative race, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett continues to lead, now with 62.97%, followed by Jenny Garcia Sharon at 32.22%.

 

8:07 p.m. update:

Hays County released its second polling location update at 8:07 p.m. Here’s what key races in San Marcos and Hays County look like now with 99,867 ballots cast.

In Hays County, Joe Biden maintains a lead of 54.85%, with President Donald Trump following at 43.12%. This is a federal race.

As of 8:07 p.m., Mayor Jane Hughson continues to lead, now with 46.25%, with Juan Miguel Arredondo trailing with 31.57%.

Alyssa C. Garza continues to lead the City Council Place 3 race, now with 70.55%, with incumbent Ed Mihalkanin trailing with 29.45%.

Shane Scott continues to lead the City Council Place 4 race, now with 54.83%, with incumbent Mark Rockeymoore trailing by 45.17%.

Mark Gleason continues to lead the race for the vacant City Council Place 5, now with 35.81%, with Omar Baca and Zach Sambrano trailing at 32.94% and 31.25%, respectively.

In the Hays County races, incumbent Gary Cutler continues to lead the sheriff race at 50.73%, with Alex Villalobos now trailing closely at 49.27%. 

Incumbent Lon A. Shell leads the commissioner precinct 3 race at 52.33%, with Lisa Prewitt trailing at 47.67%. 

Incumbent Erin Zweiner continues to lead the District 45 State Representative race in Hays County, now with 52.87%, following Carrie Isaac at 47.13%.

In Hays County, Mary “MJ” Hegar maintains a lead in the U.S. Senator race of 51.83% over Sen. John Cornyn’s 45.30%. In the U.S. Representative race, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett maintains a strong lead of 63.09%, followed by Jenny Garcia Sharon at 32.23%. These are state races.

 

7:11 p.m. update:

Hays County released its first polling location update at 7:11 p.m. Here’s what key races in San Marcos and Hays County look like now with 98,725 ballots cast.

In Hays County, Joe Biden currently leads the presidential race in Hays County at 55.04%, following President Donald Trump’s 42.95%. This is a federal race.

As of 7:11 p.m., Mayor Jane Hughson currently leads the mayoral race at 46.48%, following Juan Miguel Arredondo at 31.73% and Michael Sean Hathaway II at 9.11%.

Alyssa C. Garza leads the race for San Marcos City Council Place 3 at 70.53%, with incumbent Ed Mihalkanin trailing at 29.47%.

Shane Scott leads the San Marcos City Council Place 4 race at 54.54%, with incumbent Mark Rockeymoore trailing at 45.46%.

Mark Gleason leads the special election to fill the vacancy in City Council Place 5 with 35.57%, with Omar Baca and Zach Sambrano trailing with 33.12% and 31.32%, respectively. 

For the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Trustee Elections, incumbent Juan Miguel Arredondo leads the SMCISD District 1 race with 59.66% over James Bryant Jr. with 40.34%. Mayra Mejia leads the SMCISD District 3 race with 60.55% over Nicholas Costilla with 39.45%.

In the Hays County races, incumbent Gary Cutler leads the sheriff race at 50.58%, with Alex Villalobos following closely at 49.42%. Incumbent Lon A. Shell leads the commissioner precinct 3 race at 51.72%, with Lisa Prewitt following closely at 48.28%. 

David L. Peterson leads the constable precinct 1 race at 70.02%, following Eliseo Galarza at 29.98%. Sherri Tibbe leads the 453rd judicial district judge race at 52.89%, following  incumbent David Junkin at 47.11%. Millie Thompson leads county court-at-law judge no. 3 at 51.88%, following incumbent Tacie Zelhart at 48.12%. Incumbent Jenifer O’Kane leads the tax assessor-collector race at 50.13%, following Daphne Tenorio at 49.87%.

Incumbent Erin Zweiner currently leads the District 45 State Representative race in Hays County at 53.05%, following Carrie Isaac at 46.95%.

In Hays County, Mary “MJ” Hegar leads the U.S. Senator race in Hays County at 52.03%, following Sen. John Cornyn at 45.14%. U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett leads the U.S. Representative race at 63.22% over Jenny Garcia Sharon at 32.17%. These are state races.
