Texas State Baseball recorded eight home runs for the second time in three games en route to the team’s fifth straight game with a win against Georgia State, 18-6, Friday night at GSU Baseball Complex.
The Bobcats tied their single-game home run program record, as the team won its eighth straight matchup versus the Panthers.
The game finished in seven full innings with the third inning being Texas State’s best, where they scored nine runs. First baseman Ethan Farris was perfect in all categories for the Bobcats, going 5/5 with two of those hits being home runs. Farris had five RBI’s as well, two doubles and one triple in his outing vs the Panthers.
Jaquae Stewart finished the game with two home runs and five RBI’s as well. Clayton Namken, Rashawn Galloway, Chase Mora and Jackson Cotton each tallied home runs on the day, joining Farris and Stewart.
The game opened up with a quick scoreless first inning, but was followed up by an entertaining second inning where both teams scored runs.
Farris opened the scoring with a home run to center field, bringing him and Stewart home. Namken repeated what Farris did right after, belting his fourth home run of the season. Mora then does the unthinkable, going yard for the Bobcats again, giving the Bobcats back-to-back-to-back homers.
Texas State eventually went up 4-0 and never lost the lead the entire game, despite Georgia State scoring three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
The third inning was the biggest marking point in the game for Texas State, where the team scored nine runs, essentially closing out the chance for the Panthers to attempt a comeback.
Stewart homered to right field, his second of the game, followed by another Farris home run to left field. Texas State then got its runs from poor pitching, where Namken, Galloway, Cotton and Mora all scored.
Eventually, the team dominated the third inning so well that Stewart saw the plate again and repeated what he did earlier in the inning, going yard and bringing Galloway, Dawson Park and Manny Salas around to score.
After that inning, the team kept the foot on the gas, and the game ultimately ended in seven innings.
Texas State pitcher Kyle Froehlick was rewarded with the win. He pitched for four innings but gave up 10 hits and six runs. Georgia State had chances to compete since they finished the game with 12 hits, but when Texas State played a game with eight home runs, the Panthers almost certainly had no chance to keep up.
The Panthers had five pitchers play in the game and four out of the five all gave up at least one run. RHP Tyson Benford gave up the most, eight to be exact, the most he’s given up all season.
The Bobcats will look to repeat their Friday evening performance against the Panthers in their second series game at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28.
The game will be available to stream via ESPN+.
