The Texas State Bobcats (11-18, 7-11 SBC) fell to the Arkansas State Red Wolves (23-8, 14-4 SBC) 87-53 in the final regular season matchup Friday night at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, AR.
The Red Wolves opened the first quarter with a 10-0 scoring run. The Bobcats saw turnover woes similar to the last time these two teams faced one another. In the first quarter the Maroon and Gold had half of their turnovers for the game with 13 out of 26.
The Bobcats were held to only nine points in the opening quarter while the Red Wolves scored 26.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats were able to build momentum by adding 14 points to the scoreboard. Senior guard Myria Walker made the lone three-pointer for the Bobcats Friday evening in the final three minutes of the second quarter.
The Bobcats saw their lowest scoring quarter of the night in the third with eight points compared to the Red Wolves 24.
To close in on the scoring gap the Bobcats outscored the Red Wolves 22-15 in the final 10 minutes of the game. Walker contributed 7 of her 13 total points in the fourth quarter.
From the bench, Walker and freshman forward Kaliyah Murphy led the Bobcats in scoring, each reaching double-digits. Walker scored 13 points, while Murphy contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
For the Red Wolves, senior guard Mia Tarver led with 15 points for the evening. From the bench, senior guard D’Arrah Allen contributed 13 points.
With this matchup marking the final game of the regular season, the Bobcats gear up to enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Texas State, seeded eighth, are set to face the winner of game three during the third round of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla.
