Over 2,300 fans showed up and showed out to witness the Texas State Bobcats (6-2) dismantle the previously undefeated UTSA Roadrunners (7-1) 7-2 on Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
On the hill, junior righty Sam Hall rebounded from his Feb. 17 start against Baylor and tossed two innings of shutout, no-hit fire against a top-10 offensive team in the country. Freshman Titan Targac also found success in relief of Hall, scattering four hits over three innings and notching the win. Combined, the pair fanned 10 Roadrunners.
“Really good job by [Sam] Hall coming back from a tough outing last time… and Titan Targac, stepping right in,” head coach Steven Trout said. “Fill up the strike zone, don’t surrender many walks, and play good defense. That’s been our philosophy for winning ball games this spring.”
The Bobcats wasted no time, as a single to left field by junior first baseman Manny Salas was mishandled by the left fielder and allowed the first run to score from third.
Two batters later, junior designated hitter Jaquae Stewart lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, making it 2-0 ’Cats before the visitors could record a single out in the first inning.
An inning later, freshman catcher Clayton Namken introduced himself to a raucous crowd of Bobcat fans by crushing a two-run no-doubter to right field, stretching the lead to 4-0.
“I was just trying to compete on that pitch. We talk a lot about taking it pitch-by-pitch,” Namken said. “I was down two strikes, and I knew I just had to compete.”
Their efforts were bolstered further by freshman left fielder Tanner Carson, who doubled to left field and knocked home two more runs to make it 6-0 in the fifth.
Stewart joined Namken in the homer club in the seventh inning as the exclamation point, extinguishing any momentum the visitors were building up.
“It’s awesome, the environment was electric,” Namken said. “When you hear the other side getting [jeered] by the student section, it’s fun! It makes it easier for us to go out and do our thing.”
The Bobcats, now sitting at 6-2, will take this momentum all the way to Cleburne, Texas, this weekend for the 2026 College Baseball Series.
Texas State’s opening game in Cleburne is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at La Moderna Field.
