Texas State Track and Field swept the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week awards as seniors Abigail Parra and Melanie Duron both took home the honors after their performances at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station.
Parra earned Track Athlete of the Week honors after a third place finish in the women’s 3,000 meters with a time of 9:29.24, which set a new Texas State program record. The standout performance shattered the previous school record by 11.33 seconds.
Parra time ranks first place in the SBC and sits firmly atop with a 15.24-second gap over second place.
Duron was named the Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week after winning the women’s shot put with a mark of 16.58 meters. The impressive throw ranks first in the Sun Belt and fifth all-time in Texas State history.
The duo is not new to accomplishments as the 2025 indoor season saw them collect All-Sun Belt honors and an Indoor Championship. Parra and Duron will look to continue their successful ways as the Bobcats pursue a second consecutive indoor title.
Texas State returns to action Feb. 6-7 when they travel to College Station once more to compete at the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
