Texas State Track and Field competed and earned victories at the Texas Invitational, hosted by UT-Austin, despite it being cut short due to inclement weather in Austin, Texas.
The Bobcats found success in the field events. Aiden Hayes set the tone on the first day of the meet, clearing 2.12 meters to secure first place.
In the women’s discus, Cassandra Rendon finished in first place after a throw of 51.30 meters. Lesedi Khunou placed third with a mark of 46.60 meters. On the men’s side, Danie Strooh earned second place with a mark of 57.24 meters.
The Bobcats put together one of their strongest performances of the year in the hammer throw event. For the women, Elisabet Runarsdottir recorded a throw of 68.73 meters to claim gold, while Lara Roberts came in second place with a mark of 67.56 meters. On the men’s side, Manfred Mannamaa’s throw of 62.55 meters netted him first place. Albert Archundia, who followed in second, recorded a mark of 58.53 meters.
Caden Ohara earned silver in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 5.15 meters. Isaiah Kayembe, who also finished in second place, recorded a jump of 7.10 meters in the long jump.
On the track, Drew Donley won the 200-meter sprint with a time of 20.57 seconds.
Alexia Macias collected a gold medal in the women’ s 3000-meter steeplechase posting a time of 10:43.49.
Mihaljo Katanic came in second with a time of 51.39 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, and Omar Guzman ran a 14:53.03 in the 5000-meters to earn bronze.
Texas State will get a much needed week of rest to recover with the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships looming. Competition is set to run through May 14-16 in Mobile, Ala.
