Following the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships that occurred from May 14-16, the SBC offered 10 outdoor postseason awards, of which the Texas State Bobcats Track and Field program laid claim to seven of them following their second straight outdoor conference sweep.
Elisabet Runarsdottir was named Women’s Field Performer of the Year after winning the conference title in the hammer throw with a mark of 70.81 meters. Runarsdottir set a new facility record with her effort and ranks second in the nation in the event.
Graduate Drew Donley, who scored 19 points in the outdoor championships, earned the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Track Performer of the Year. Donley earned titles in the 100-meter with a time of 10.22 and the 200-meter sprint stopping the clock at 20.39 seconds.
His performance in the 200-meter netted him both the facility record and the top spot in the Texas State history books.
Freshman Ja’Shaun Lloyd secured the Men’s Freshman of the Year and Men’s Newcomer of the Year accolades after his historic outdoor season.
Lloyd, who won the Men’s High Point Scorer honors with 25.5 points, captured the conference title in the 110-meter hurdles with a new personal best of 13.41 seconds, which is a new Texas State record. Lloyd also added a championship victory in the 100-meter event after tying with Donley and setting a new program-record of 10.22 seconds.
Sophie Daugard earned the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Newcomer of the Year after an impressive showing this season in the multi events including a conference heptathlon title. Daugard scored 5,456 points at the outdoor meet with top three finishes in six of the seven multi events. Daugard holds the school record in the heptathlon with her performance of 5,537 points earlier in the season.
The head of the show, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country John Frazier was named both the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to consecutive sweeps of the Sun Belt Conference.
Guided by Frazier, the Bobcats have recorded unprecedented levels of success as they became only the second program in Sun Belt Conference history to win back-to-back conference sweep.
The Bobcats will look to continue their successful ways when their outdoor season continues on May 27-30 at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Fayetteville, Ark.
