The Texas State track and field squad continued their outdoor season as they competed at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet in Houston, Texas, hosted by Rice University, on Saturday, April 25.
The Bobcats found success in the field events. In the women’s shot put event, Sophia Harberer won gold with a mark of 15.87 meters. Hannah Kemele, who also came in third in the javelin event, finished in third with a throw of 14.30 meters, while sophomore Stephanie Williams came in eighth with a mark of 12.85 meters. On the men’s side, freshman Adam Carter recorded a throw of 17.80 meters
In the men’s pole vault, freshman Caden Ohara recorded a mark of 5.25 meters to win gold. Fellow freshman Connor Skopik came in seventh place with a mark of 4.75 meters.
Senior Aiden Hayes produced in the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.24 meters, a strong performance to win gold. Freshman Tshephang Dankuru earned fourth place with a jump of 2.12 meters.
The Bobcats sent three athletes to the podium in the triple jump. Junior Damacio Hooks placed second with a jump of 14.17 meters, and sophomore Christian Soungie earned third place with a mark of 14.10 meters. For the women, junior Kennedy Jacquet recorded a mark of 11.97 meters to win bronze.
The Bobcats posted strong times on the track as well. Freshman Ja’Shaun Lloyd posted a time of 10.39 seconds in the 100-meter sprint to earn a gold medal. Senior Drew Donley recorded a time of 10.47 seconds to place fourth and Ty’Shaun Lloyd placed eighth with a time of 10.77 seconds.
In the 200-meter event, Freshman Sal Brookins recorded a first place finish in the women’s bracket with a time of 12.22 seconds, while fellow freshman Sanaa Washington placed third with a time of 12.39 seconds. On the men’s side, Drew Donley earned silver posting a time of 20.74 seconds.
Freshman Kathryn Evans shined in the women’s 800-meter event, winning gold and stopping the clock at 2:10.17. In the same event, Senior Haley Hall finished in sixth place with a time of 2:16.72.
The Bobcats ruled the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Ja’Shaun Lloyd took gold with a time of 13.86 seconds. Phillip Reed earned bronze with a time of 14.32 seconds, and Junior Arveyon Davis trailed right behind him, coming in fourth place crossing the line in 14.48 seconds.
The 400-meter hurdles were another area of success for the Bobcats. On the women’s side, Victoria Amiadamen came in first place with a time of 59.30 seconds, while her freshman teammate Siena Farrell finished in second place with a time of 1:01.37. On the men’s side, Mihajlo Katanic earned gold with a time of 51.26 seconds.
After a successful meet in Houston, the Bobcats look ahead to the Texas Invitational hosted by the Texas Longhorns in Austin. The meet will go through April 30-May 1 and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
