The Texas State Women’s basketball team continued its dominant 2017-18 campaign with another blowout win, this time downing the Georgia State Panthers 62-40.
After picking up another blowout win, the Bobcats now have 10 wins by 20 or more points this season, the most ever in Texas State history.
Despite a superior regular season record of 19-8, the Bobcats sit behind the 17-9 Little Rock Trojans who boast a 14-1 Sun Belt Conference record. Texas State is 12-4 against Sun Belt Conference rivals.
The Bobcats’ 19 win is the first time Texas State has had 19 or more wins since their 2007-08 season when they recorded 21 victories.
Making history once again this season, Toshua Leavitt, junior guard, broke the Sun Belt Conference record for most made three-point field goals in a season. It was in the last minutes of play that the junior guard drained two threes, surpassing Middle Tennessee’s Kortni Jones’ record of 115.
Sitting at 116, Leavitt is just 13 more threes away from the NCAA record of 129 made three-point shots, a record set by Syraccuse’s Brianna Butler during the 2015-16 season. Leavitt had 11 total points, five assists and a steal in 34 minutes on the floor.
The matchup started as a close game with both teams trading leads early on before Texas State took the lead. The Bobcats led by as many as 11 but the Trojans closed the gap, heading into the second half down 28-22.
Building on their second half lead, Texas State remained in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 25 points.
Leading the Bobcats against the Panthers was Ti’Aria Pitts, senior forward. The forward scored a game-high 18-points and had three assists, a block and a steal in 34 minutes on the court.
Behind Pitts in scoring was Taeler Deer, senior guard. The senior had 17-points, three assists, a block and a steal in 34 minutes.
Coming up next for the Bobcats is a matchup against the Georgia Southern Eagles in Strahan Coliseum, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
